This CIA report, dated June 1979, was probably written as background material for President Jimmy Carter’s 1979 visit to Seoul. It was obtained by Tim Shorrock under the Freedom of Information Act in 2006; the initial FOIA request to the agency was made in 1993.

DEDICATION: To Hyun Lee, one of the best organizers and smartest analysts I have ever known. She dedicated her life to making the peace for a unified Korea. She left us in 2022 way too soon. This photograph was taken in July 2013 at a demonstration in Seoul calling for a peace treaty to end the Korean War. Hyun Lee, Presente!
