The events of May 18 to May 27, 1980, in photos, from “Records of the May Uprising,” a new book published by the 5.18 Archives in Gwangju. Some are familar, others have never been published before. An incredible monument to the brave people of Gwangju during an unforgettable time in Korean history.

DEDICATION: To Hyun Lee, one of the best organizers and smartest analysts I have ever known. She dedicated her life to making the peace for a unified Korea. She left us in 2022 way too soon. This photograph was taken in July 2013 at a demonstration in Seoul calling for a peace treaty to end the Korean War. Hyun Lee, Presente!
